...a 14th Century royal quilt, perhaps?
This Hungarian quilt was found covered with mud at the bottom of a castle well lin Budapest, Hungary. The quilt is made of silk, in both patchwork and appliqué styles. It features blocks about 1 foot square in red and white. It depicts both Hungarian and Neapolitan heraldic devices (the fleur de lys, for example).
Hart Cottage Quilts' website indicates that the quilt is now at the Budapest History Museum.
Quite an amazing find for the bottom of a well, huh?
